Rincon is on the north-west corner of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. The Trade Winds blow from the East and North East, making Rincon ideally situated to be off shore in most conditions. Iconic big wave surf spot of the Caribbean is found at Tres Palmas on the western side. Big swells from the northern quadrant wrap around the point and run down the Elkhorn Coral Reef inside the Tres Palmas Marine Park. Domes Beach held the 1968 World Championship Surfing Contest against the decommissioned nuclear power plant. Other surf spots in the area consist of from south to north: Lil’ Malibu; Steps Beach; Dogmans; Pistons; Marias; The Point; Indicators; Deadman’s; Spanish Wall; Pools; Sandy Beach; Parking Lots; Antonios; Rivermouth and Rio Grande.
